(GivenUs.com) – It can take decades to know yourself, to REALLY know yourself. Not only is it difficult to figure out your own likes and dislikes in a world that’s constantly telling you what you should like, but it’s extremely difficult to measure your own worth and intimately know and trust your values and judgments.
When you don’t know who you truly are, you tend to seek outside validation in the form of praise and feedback from your peers. If someone tells you that you’re unlikeable, you’ll believe it. If you get positive feedback for something — even if it’s unhealthy — you’ll continue to engage in the activity in exchange for the positive vibes you’re getting. That can be dangerous.
Fortunately, you can get to know yourself better by exploring who you really are. Listen to your inner voice. Meditate. Speak to a therapist. Find your true talents. Once you learn how to dig deep and nurture your true self, you can be happier, healthier and more successful.
