How to Show Up for Yourself

( – These days, it’s easy to put yourself on the back burner. Stress, work and simply running out of time can make looking out for your mental and physical well-being a challenge.

This video by Headspace shares the importance of self-care and showing up for yourself during challenging times.

Being cognizant of your needs can put you in a better state of mind. Here are some important reasons to show up and have your own back:

  • Boost blood flow. Even though gyms are closed, it’s important to make sure your body is getting enough physical movement. Try a gym alternative and play. Do some non-contact sports and have fun with it.
  • Get plenty of sleep. While a good 7 to 9 hours is recommended every night, a nap during the day won’t hurt. This helps rejuvenate the body and allows the mind to rest.
  • Eat right. Nourish your body. Feed it with enough fruits and veggies for optimal health. Getting proper nutrition boosts energy and gives you enough stamina to get through the day.

While we may have loved ones who look out for us, we are our best protectors. This is the only body you have, so make it last. Putting yourself first isn’t being selfish; it’s one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself.
