( – Fear can be a crippling feeling. It can stop you from pursuing your very best life. Whether you’re giving a speech or making a major life decision, fear can hold you back. So how do you get past it?

Take these steps to overcome your fear:

  • Consider what is fear costing you. The fear of taking that first step can actually cost you. Maybe you’ve been putting off going to the dentist to get your teeth fixed or talking to the new person at work you have a crush on. Pushing past fear and accepting the result, whether good or bad, is the only way to overcome it. Otherwise it could cost you your heart or your smile.
  • Manifest your goal. One way to overcome fear is to picture yourself with the outcome you desire. This technique of mindfulness allows you to repeat the best-case scenario in your mind. It can help you deal with fear and face it head on.
  • Define your worst-case scenario. What’s the absolute worst thing that could come of something you’re afraid of doing? Sometimes when you visualize a bad outcome, you can’t. Or you realize it simply is not that bad.
  • Consider the outcome or benefit. Just thinking about how much better your life will be once you take that first fearful step can be all you need. Fear of flying? Getting on the airplane will mean you get to experience a beautiful travel destination or see a grandchild you’ve never met. The pros often outweigh the cons.

We all have our fears. Some people easily overcome theirs, while others need a bit of help. It’s a natural feeling; sometimes all you need to do is embrace it. The less you fight against your fear, the easier it will dissipate. You deserve to get your life back!
